State-of-the-art drone donated to Nilgiris police for traffic surveillance, anti-Naxal operations, and locating missing persons.
A state-of-the-art drone was donated to the Nilgiris district police by Coromandel International on Thursday.
Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police N. S. Nisha received the drone costing an estimated ₹14 lakh. The equipment will be used for traffic surveillance, locating missing persons in thick forests and conducting anti-Naxal operations, among other uses, police officials stated.
Four police personnel from the Nilgiris district have also been certified as licensed drone pilots. The four are said to be the first licensed drone pilots in the Tamil Nadu police force. Three of the four persons, M. Prakash, V.Sundarraj and K. Muthuswamy are all head constables, while S. Dhinesh is a Grade I constable.
Police officials said that they have been incorporating modern technology to increase surveillance across the district, and that such efforts were being used in crime detection and prevention.
The event will run daily from 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m., offering a variety of activities. Visitors can enjoy dance and music performances, hands-on art experiences, film screenings, and exhibitions from 10.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. These will feature folk cuisines, leather puppets, philately, textiles, and handicrafts.
