AIADMK's Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticizes DMK government for political motives in delimitation meeting, neglecting people's issues.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday (March 15, 2025) criticised the DMK government’s decision to hold a meeting on delimitation next week, terming it an attempt to achieve political gains and not for the purpose of resolving the problems faced by the people of the State.
Addressing journalists outside the Assembly chamber at Fort St. George, Mr. Palaniswami wondered why the DMK’s representatives, during their meetings with leaders of other States, did not raise the issue of the two-language formula. “The reason is this: they [the leaders of other States] would not respond favourably. Karnataka and Telengana have all accepted the National Education Policy,” he said, adding that when the DMK enjoyed power at the Centre for 13 years and was also in power in the State, it could have sorted out several issues, including inter-State river disputes.
Accusing the DMK regime of indulging in “corruption” even in schemes meant for farmers, the AIADMK general secretary referred to media reports of farmers being made to pay ₹40 per bag of 40 kg as bribe at the Direct Purchase Centres. He accused the State government of failing to implement beneficial schemes for the community of agriculturists, who had not been provided quality inputs and seeds. He also criticised the regime for not having brought farmers under the crop insurance scheme during the Kuruvai cultivation season.
Referring to the duration of the Budget speech by M.R.K. Panneerselvam on agriculture, which lasted about 1.45 hours, Mr. Palaniswami described the Budget as disappointing, contending that no benefits would be provided to farmers.
