Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday appealed to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh that the Centre should confer the Bharat Ratna upon the late seer Shivakumara Swami of Siddaganga Mutt for his contribution to society.

“The late seer has given anna, akshara, and ashraya (food, education, and shelter) to lakhs of people. The Centre must consider him for the Bharat Ratna,” he appealed to the Defence Minister at a function organised at Siddaganga Mutt to celebrate the 118th birth anniversary of the seer.
“I appeal to the Defence Minister to bring this to the attention of the Prime Minister. This is an appeal from the people of Karnataka and the government of Karnataka. Shivakumara Swami has given many achievers to this society,” he said.
