Survey for road expansion on Sathyamangalam Road initiated by Coimbatore Corporation to accommodate Metro Rail project.
The Coimbatore Corporation has initiated a survey for road expansion on Sathyamangalam Road (National Highway 948) to accommodate the Metro Rail project.
In the first phase, a 1.2 km stretch from Textool Bridge to Old Ganapathy Road has been taken up for assessment. The survey involves mapping land and underground utilities, including drinking water pipelines, underground drainage (UGD) pipes, gas pipelines, network cables, and electricity lines.
A corporation official stated, “Earlier, a survey was conducted for a 20-meter stretch to support the National Highways Department’s road expansion plan. With the Metro Rail project progressing, we are now conducting a fresh survey covering 30 meters on either side of the road. The survey is expected to be completed within a month and will be submitted to the State government.”
Additionally, the civic body recently carried out a utility mapping survey at Ukkadam Bus Stand.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has allocated ₹2 crore to the Corporation for conducting the survey for the Coimbatore Metro Rail.
Once the survey is completed, all stakeholders, including the Highways Department, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), Coimbatore Corporation, and the Public Works Department, will review the findings and proceed accordingly.
