BJP Tamil Nadu president accuses DMK government of allowing mineral smuggling, leading to resource depletion and higher construction material prices.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai on Sunday (March 16, 2025) accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government of not having taken action against those involved in smuggling minerals.
Ruling DMK relying on illegal mineral theft gangs to face the Assembly election in 2026, says Annamalai
Referring to the recent seizure of two trucks which were allegedly used to smuggle minerals to Kerala, Mr. Annamalai in a post on X, said “The entire Tamil Nadu has been looted for its mineral resources, since the DMK came to power. The looting is solely being carried out by the members of the DMK. It not only deprived the resources of the State, but also led to shortage of construction materials in Tamil Nadu. People of the State are forced to pay higher prices for construction materials.”
According to him, the DMK members are exploiting the State to make money and the State Government is silent on it. “When will the DMK government take action against the owners of the trucks involved in smuggling minerals to Kerala, particularly from the border districts of Coimbatore, Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi,” he asked.

Model primary schools should not undermine existing institutions, caution UTF leaders. Calling for due diligence while introducing reforms, they say that upper primary schools, with a strength of above 60, should either be upgraded into high schools or be allowed to continue in their present form. Inordinate delay in payment of dues to employees and teachers a cause for concern, they say.
