MLA Yatnal leads BJP fight against Waqf Act, 1995, to protect farmers' land rights, seeks amendment from Union government.
MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has said that the fight launched by BJP leaders was against the Waqf Act, 1995, and not against any individual.
Speaking to mediapersons in Kongandi village of Shahapur taluk in Yadgir district on Wednesday (November 27, 2024) after interacting with the farmers, Mr. Yatnal said that they (BJP leaders) were against mutation entries in the name of Waqf Board in the land records (RTC) of farmers.
“We will continue our struggle till justice prevails as hundreds of farmers in this village alone suffered after their land records were shown with the Board’s name,” he said.
The farmers complained that their lands were acquired for the railway line project. But compensation was withheld as the land records were in the name of the Waqf Board.
Responding to them, Mr. Yatnal said that the problem would be solved only after removing the Board’s name from RTC and abolishing the Waqf Tribunal. He urged the Union government to immediately amend the Act in this regard.
Former Minister Arvind Limbavali said that their team was visiting the affected areas and interacting with the farmers. “After visiting, we will meet Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee Jagadambika Pal and apprise him of the situation,” he said.
