National Backward Classes Welfare Association protests against government land sale for welfare hostels, demands pending rent payment.
HYDERABAD
The National Backward Classes Welfare Association on Sunday (March 16, 2025) staged a protest, a dharna, demanding the State Government not to sell lands, to construct own buildings for welfare hostels and residential educational institutions in government lands and to pay the rents of hostels pending for the last three years.
Speaking at the protest, president of the association and Rajya Sabha member R. Krishnaiah alleged that the Congress Government was grossly neglecting the management of welfare hostels leading to problems on one hand and resorting to the sale of government lands on the other, after speaking loudly against such acts when in opposition. Government lands were people’s assets and must be used only for public purposes, he said.
Asking the student community to raise their voice against the sale of lands, he said the government would sell Gachibowli lands first if silence was maintained on it and would go ahead with sale of lands elsewhere in the City, Mr. Krishanaiah said and added that he would raise the matter at national level too.
The owners of buildings where the BC welfare hostels and residential schools were housed were demanding vacating them for non-payment of rents for long.
