Annual Suttur Jathra Mahotsava from January 26-31 features religious, cultural events, mass marriage, academic programs, traditional sports, and more.
Preparations are in full swing for the annual Suttur Jathra Mahotsava, which is one of the biggest events in the region, from January 26 to 31. It will feature a slew of religious and cultural programmes.
There will be a mass marriage on January 27. The objective is to promote simple weddings among the public and impress upon them to eschew incurring exorbitant expenditure.
There will be rathothsava on January 28, Mahadeshwara Kandothsava and Lakshadeepothsava on January 29, followed by Theppotsava on January 30.
In addition to religious and cultural activities, the Suttur Jathra is also known for holding academic programmes like seminars and exhibitions showcasing the latest developments in the field of science, technology, and agriculture.
The large objective of the Jathra is to engage with the local community. A rangoli contest for the people of Suttur has been organized on January 26 in which more than 150 teams will take part. More than 800 participants have registered for the State-level bhajana mela.
A salient feature of this year’s exhibition is the focus on Artificial Intelligence. More than 200 science models prepared by students of various institutions run by the JSS Mahavidyapeetha and the mutt will be on display at the expo.
There will also be Krishi Mela catering to the farmers of the region, and experts have been roped in to provide information on new methods of cultivation, irrigation, etc. This will be topped by a seminar on agriculture on January 29, according to the organizers.
The event will run daily from 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m., offering a variety of activities. Visitors can enjoy dance and music performances, hands-on art experiences, film screenings, and exhibitions from 10.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. These will feature folk cuisines, leather puppets, philately, textiles, and handicrafts.
