50 people from Munambam join BJP after Waqf Amendment Bill; BJP Kerala president welcomes them, supports their land rights.
Close on the heels of the Parliament passing the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025, as many as 50 people from Munambam, a coastal village located off Kochi city in Kerala, joined the BJP on Friday (April 4) noon. They were welcomed to the party by former Union Minister and BJP Kerala president Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Earlier, Mr. Chandrasekhar was given a rousing reception at the venue of the agitation in Munambam where a total of over 600 families – mostly from the Christian community – faced the threat of displacement from approximately 400 acres of land after the Kerala State Waqf Board staked claim to the land. The agitation by the families entered its 174th day on Friday.
Mr. Chandrasekhar termed the development “a response to people’s representatives ignoring” the agitation by the Munambam residents.
Stating that the Waqf Amendment was not against any community, he said that the party would stand with the agitating residents until they received revenue rights to the land.
Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi, who had earlier said the Waqf Bill would benefit the agitating Munambam residents, is expected to visit them in the coming days.

Due to various reasons, many medical colleges across India have failed to appoint faculty according to the number of students, as per the NMC norms. Colleges are allegedly running classes through ghost faculty in post-graduate medical courses like anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, forensic medicine, pharmacology, and microbiology, where the number of students is less.
