YSRCP seeks withdrawal of Andhra Pradesh government’s decision to impose true-up charges on people
YSR Congress Party leader and Opposition leader in the A.P. Legislative Council Botcha Satyanarayana has demanded that the State government withdraw its decision on imposing a burden of ₹15,485 crore in the name of true-up charges. A decision was taken to hike the power tariff by ₹1.25, per unit, from this month.
Addressing a media conference here on Monday, Mr. Satyanarayana said that the YSRCP would soon announce its plan to oppose the hike in power tariff. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan have gone back on their promise of not hiking the power tariff and within six months of coming to power, they have decided to impose a burden of ₹6,072 crore on the people in the name of true-up charges, he said.
He alleged that the government was preparing to impose an additional ₹9,412 crore burden on the people as true-up charges, after February 2025. This would take the total burden on the people to ₹15,485 crore. He demanded that the State government bear the burden of true-up charges.
He criticised the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister for trying to blame the former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for all the failures of the NDA government. Within six months of coming to power, the present government has borrowed loans to the tune of ₹67,237 crore, and was preparing to take another ₹4,000 crore on Tuesday, he said.
Mr. Satyanarayana said that despite such huge borrowing of funds, the NDA government has failed to implement its ‘super six’ schemes, except hiking the pension by ₹1,000 and haphazard implementation of the free gas cylinder scheme. No allocation has been made in the State Budget for their implementation.
Drawing an analogy, Mr. Satyanarayana said that the YSRCP government had implemented several schemes within six months of coming to power and ₹18,098 crore was transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries under various schemes like Amma Vodi, Vasathi Deevena, Vidya Deevena, Rythu Bharosa, Sunna Vaddi, Matsyakara Bharosa and EBC Nestham, through DBT.
He ridiculed Mr. Pawan Kalyan for creating a scene at the Kakinada Port in his capacity as Deputy Chief Minister, and said it was like the enactment of a scene from his popular film ‘Gabbar Singh’. He wondered whether Mr. Pawan Kalyan, who had pulled up the local TDP MLAs on the issue, was not aware that the Civil Supplies portfolio was held by an MLA from his own party (JSP).

The Karnataka government has drafted a comprehensive master plan for the integrated development of Kukke Subrahmanya temple, the State’s highest revenue-generating temple managed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department. The redevelopment initiative is estimated to cost around ₹254 crore and aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities for devotees.
