Youth Congress activists protest against outpatient consultation fee at Kozhikode hospital, leading to arrests and demands for withdrawal.
A group of Youth Congress activists on Monday (December 2) staged a sit-in protest at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, against the fee for outpatient (OP) consultation being charged from patients.
The hospital development society chaired by District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh recently decided to charge ₹10 for OP consultation in a bid to raise funds for emergency purposes. The decision came into effect on Monday. However, the Youth Congress, which has been opposing the proposal ever since it was mooted by the Collector, staged a protest outside the office of the hospital superintendent on Monday.
Though the activists were invited for talks, the hospital authorities refused to accept their demands. Later, the police took them into custody. The activists were booked under various charges and released on bail. R. Shahin, Youth Congress district president, said that the protest would continue till the OP consultation fee is withdrawn.

The Karnataka government has drafted a comprehensive master plan for the integrated development of Kukke Subrahmanya temple, the State’s highest revenue-generating temple managed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department. The redevelopment initiative is estimated to cost around ₹254 crore and aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities for devotees.
