Election Commission asks Arvind Kejriwal for evidence on Yamuna poisoning, deadline set for response by Friday.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday (January 30, 2025) wrote to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, asking him to not mix the issue of increased Ammonia levels in Yamuna water with that of poisoning. The ECI also said that Mr. Kejriwal’s response to their previous letter on the charges does not specify any evidence regarding poisoning of river Yamuna.

The ECI also asked him to provide factual evidence with information on the type, quantity, nature and manner of poisoning of the Yamuna.
He was also asked to share details of engineers, location and methodology of detecting the “poison” by Delhi Jal Board staff by 11 a.m. on Friday (January 31, 2025), failing which the ECI will be free to take appropriate decision in the matter.

On Wednesday (January 29, 2025) Mr. Kejriwal responded to a notice from the ECI over his claim the Haryana government was “mixing poison” in Yamuna, and said raw water received from the BJP-ruled state in the recent past has been “highly contaminated and extremely poisonous” for human health.
In the 14-page reply, he said that if such “toxic water” is allowed to be consumed by people, it would lead to grave health hazard and fatality.
