Amidst raging debates over work from home versus work from office and a healthy work-life balance, a video recording of a woman driving on the busy Airport Road and appearing to be attending to official work on her laptop, landed her in trouble with the police.
The Bengaluru North Division Traffic Police on Wednesday tracked down the IT employee and booked her for dangerous driving and fined her ₹1,000.
The incident occurred on Monday when some passers-by noticed the unusual sight of the woman driving on the busy road with her laptop open and recorded a video along with the registration number of the car and sent it to the social media account of the traffic police seeking action.
Based on a complaint, the traffic police tracked down the accused woman to her relative’s house where she was allegedly hiding and seized her car, apart from booking her and slapping a penalty on her.
The incident attracted all kinds of reactions from the public on X (formerly Twitter), including some about the ongoing debates over work timings and work modes. While some sought to know which company she worked for, Nirka@Nirka01 said: “Her company name should be revealed so that other job aspirants should avoid applying there.”
SneAru@aru_sne added: “That’s the condition of an IT person in India,”
“We have advised people to behave on roads and follow traffic rules to ensure the safety of other motorists,” Siri Gowri, DCP, Traffic, North Division, said.
