A 21-year-old woman farm labourer was killed in an alleged tiger attack at a cotton field near Gannaram village in Kagaznagar mandal of Telangana’s Kumram Bheem Asifabad district on Friday (November 29, 2024) morning. The deceased was identified as Morle Laxmi of Gannaram.
The big cat reportedly strayed into a cotton field where Laxmi and several other farm workers were plucking cotton on the outskirts of Gannaram around 7.30 am.
The tiger attacked Laxmi from behind, leaving her seriously injured. Laxmi succumbed to the grievous injuries on the spot.
The panick stricken farm labourers raised an alarm following which the tiger fled into the forest fringe area, sources said.
Fear gripped the villages nearby Nazrulnagar and its surrounding areas along the forested inter-State border with Maharashtra following the incident.
A group of irate villagers of Gannaram staged a dharna in front of the office of the Forest Range Officer in Kagaznagar with the body of the deceased farm labourer demanding ₹50 lakh ex-gratia to her impoverished family.
