Toronto police have charged a 29-year-old woman with aggravated assault and two counts of arson after a man was found stabbed in a burning apartment unit on Friday morning.
Officers responded to a call of about a fire around 11:20 a.m. Friday near Sherbourne and Shuter streets, police said in a news release Saturday.
Police say the woman and the victim got into an altercation where the women stabbed the victim, and then set fire to an apartment unit.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the woman, who is from Toronto, was arrested a short time later. She was scheduled to appear in bail court on Saturday morning.
Police said the victim and accused know each other but did not provide further details.
On Friday, Toronto Fire said smoke was visible when they arrived on scene. Crews put out a fire in a unit on the fifth floor and removed two people. One was on the balcony and the other was inside, they said.
