With no buyers and MSP, farmers in Andhra Pradesh are in distress, says YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy. The per-quintal price of chilli and the yield per acre have fallen drastically, and input costs have gone up, but the NDA government in the State seems to have least concern for the farmers, he alleges.
Stating that farmers in Andhra Pradesh are in distress as they are unable to sell their produce, YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to come to the chilli yard and rescue them.
Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who visited the yard here on Wednesday and interacted with the farmers, alleged that ever since the coalition government came to power in the State, the farmers were being deprived of MSP. Besides, there were no buyers for their produce.
“The per-quintal price of chilli has drastically fallen to ₹8,000 from ₹27,000 earlier. The yield per acre too has fallen drastically when compared with the previous year. On top of it, the input costs have gone up, and tenant farmers are bearing the brunt,” Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said.
“The situation is no different in Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, Kurnool and Anantapur districts,” he said.
“Despite such a grave situation, there is no review from the government side. The Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu have no concern. As a result, the farmers are in the lurch,” he alleged.
“Mr. Naidu has done nothing for the farmers. He, however, has stopped all the revolutionary reforms brought in by YSRCP government,” he alleged.
“During our term, we had given MSP not just for chilli, turmeric and onion, but also for 24 other crops. If the farmers did not get MSP, the government had provided it, and RBKs were used as an anchor point for the farmers,” the former Chief Minister claimed.
