Jeff Bezos sparks Bond casting debate as Amazon MGM takes creative control of 007 franchise, reigniting Henry Cavill rumors.
Jeff Bezos stirred up a social media frenzy after posing a simple yet highly debated question: “Who’d you pick as the next Bond?” The Amazon founder’s post on X came in the wake of Amazon MGM Studios officially taking creative control of the 007 franchise, marking a significant shift in the future of the beloved British spy series.
Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, announced a joint venture to oversee the franchise. While the three parties co-own the intellectual property rights, Amazon MGM now holds the creative reins, paving the way for new possibilities in the Bond universe.
Bezos’s question unleashed a flurry of responses, with fans passionately championing their favorite candidates to don the iconic tuxedo. While names like Tom Cruise and James McAvoy surfaced, it was Henry Cavill’s supporters who dominated the discussion. The actor, best known for his portrayal of Superman, has long been a fan-favorite contender for the role, and Bezos’s post only reignited their enthusiasm.
Cavill nearly landed the part when the franchise was rebooted with Casino Royale in 2006. Director Martin Campbell previously revealed that Cavill gave a stellar audition but was ultimately deemed too young for the role at the time. “If Daniel didn’t exist, Henry would have made an excellent Bond,” Campbell once remarked, praising Cavill’s performance and physicality.
However, with Cavill now 40, questions linger about whether he is still the right fit for a long-term commitment to the franchise. Despite this, his loyal fan base continues to campaign tirelessly for his casting.
As of now, no official timeline has been set for the announcement of the next James Bond.
