Delhi's new leadership aims to transform the city with improved cleanliness, urging citizens to play an active role.
“Delhiites have chosen a new leadership for change, and this transformation will positively impact both the city and its people,” Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena said on Friday (February 14, 2025).
Speaking at the ‘Samvaad with Swachhta Sainiks’ event in New Delhi, he said while some areas, particularly those under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), are well-maintained, others require significant improvement.
“We will ensure that Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) areas also become as clean and beautiful as NDMC zones,” he said.
The L-G highlighted that keeping Delhi is primarily the responsibility of the MCD, which has a workforce of 50,000 sanitation workers.
Mr. Saxena praised sanitation workers for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Yamuna floods, and the G20 beautification drive.
He also urged citizens to also play an active role.
“When we see potholes and garbage in the capital, it raises concerns about whether we are truly representing the country’s capital,” he added.

The Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) whether it would fulfil the poll promise of providing free LPG cylinders to women on Holi. Hitting back, the ruling party asked AAP why had it not kept its word on disbursing ₹1,000 to women for which it had allocated ₹2,000 crore in the 2024-25 budget. Meanwhile, Delhi government sources said officials are preparing a blueprint of the proposal and that the criteria for the beneficiaries is yet to be decided. The BJP had promised to provide LPG cylinders for ₹500 to women from poor families and one free cylinder each on Holi and Deepavali ahead of the February 5 Assembly election.
