BJP MLA from West Bengal calls for new leadership with strong organizational understanding to win upcoming elections.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from West Bengal’s Gangarampur, Satyendra Nath Roy, raised questions on the role of the party’s leadership in the State, and said it needs a new leader with a robust understanding of the organisation.
“It is time for a new leadership, as should have happened much earlier. There are systems in place which take time, but MLAs and mandal presidents are all very anxious about when it will happen,” Mr. Roy told media persons on Friday (January 10, 2025).
He added that the right leader for the BJP in West Bengal must be someone who understands the organisation well.
“I do not think every leader in the party understands this organisation very well. The right leader should have the ability to build the organisation and inspire more people to join. If such a person is appointed to lead the party in the State, then we can win West Bengal,” Mr. Roy said.
It is worth noting that the Gangarampur Assembly constituency in Dakshin Dinajpur district falls within the perimeter of the Balurghat Parliamentary constituency, represented by Union Minister and West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar.
Mr. Majumdar was appointed to lead the West Bengal BJP after the Assembly polls in 2021, but since his appointment as Union Minister of State in the Modi Cabinet in 2024, a change has been due in the post of president in the party’s West Bengal unit.
With Assembly polls in West Bengal slated for 2026, a new BJP leadership in the State would have just over a year to take on the party’s electoral preparations.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), probing the death of contractor, Sachin Panchal, who allegedly ended his life in Bidar on December 26 last year, arrested five persons, including the prime accused Rajkumar Kapnoor, a former member of the Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike, and reportedly a follower of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, Priyank Kharge, on Friday.
