Various districts in north Tamil Nadu woke up to wet weather on Thursday (December 26, 2024) owing to the effect of a weakened weather system over the Bay of Bengal.
The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has updated that Tuesday’s (December 24, 2024) well-marked low pressure area over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coasts has now weakened into a low pressure area over the same region.
Places like Chennai’s Villivakkam (3 cm), Nungambakkam, Nandanam, Pallikaranai, Meenambakkam and Ennore (2 cm each), and Cuddalore, Ranipet, and Puducherry recorded mild rains over the last 24 hours as of 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.
The RMC has predicted that rainfall of light to moderate intensity, along with thunderstorms, is likely to continue till Friday over the State, Puducherry, and the Karaikal area. This would be the last spell of rainfall before the weather system moves away from the region.
Isolated rainfall may occur in one or two places in the State till the end of the month. Chennai too may experience partly cloudy sky and light or moderate rainfall in some areas till Friday.
