Andhra Pradesh Government initiates land acquisition for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects, costing billions.
Andhra Pradesh Government on Thursday (January 30, 2025) set in motion the process of acquiring land for Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada rail projects.
Orders to that effect were issued to Visakhapatnam and NTR district Collectors, who instructed the officers concerned to submit the details thereof for the sake of publishing the notifications as required by law.

The Phase-I of these two metro rail projects was approved in December 2024 costing ₹11,498 crore (Visakhapatnam) and ₹11,009 crore (Vijayawada). Visakhapatnam metro rail needs 99.75 acres, whose cost has been pegged at ₹882 crore.
This will be a 46.23 km long railway planned to be built in three corridors namely Steel Plant Gate to Kommadi, Gurudwara to Old Post Office and Thatichetlapalem to Chinna Waltair.
The Vijayawada metro rail was planned in 38.40 km and comprises two corridors Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) to Gannavaram and PNBS to Penamaluru. It requires 91 acres and is expected to cost ₹1,152 crore.
