South Central Railway nears completion of electrification in Vijayawada division, aiming for greener, faster, and efficient Indian Railways.
The South Central Railway (SCR) has completed about 99% of electrification of tracks in Vijayawada division, said Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Narendra A. Patil.
The railway officers arranged a photo exhibition and walkathon here on Monday (February 3, 2025), to mark the 100-years of electrification in Indian Railways.
The DRM, who inaugurated the photo exhibition and the walkathon on electrification, said in 2010 ‘Mission Electrification’ was launched with an aim to electrify all the broad guage tracks by 2030.
Out of 6,610 kms located in SCR zone, 6,150 kms was electrified and very soon, and in Vijayawada division all routes leading to Vijayawada junction have been electrified, Mr. Narendra A. Patil said.
“The Vijayawada-Chennai, Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada-Guntur are the electrification routes. In 2022, Vijayawada-Nidadavolu, Gudivada-Machilipatnam, Bhimavaram-Narsapur branch line sections doubling with electrification were completed,” the DRM said.
Tripling-cum-electrification works were taken up between Gudur-Krishna Canal Junction. So far 75 percent of the works were completed and the remaining works will be completed by the mid of 2025, he said.
“Electrification will contribute to the broader goal of making Indian Railways faster, greener and more efficient. Completion of Mission Electrification will enable to introduce high speed trains like Vande Bharat which enhance connectivity and speed within the region,” Mr. Narendra A. Patil said.
