Unit III of Tuticorin Thermal Power Station (TTPS), which was shut down following a fire accident at the power station on March 15, resumed its operation on Thursday morning.
The TTPS had previously operated all the five units, each having a generation capacity of 210 MW. However, a sudden fire outbreak on March 15 completely damaged Units I and II, while Unit III suffered a minor damage in the power supply system. As a result, power generation in all the three units was completely halted.
Tangedco officials conducted an inspection and expedited repair works to restore the operation as quickly as possible.
After 17 days of repair and restoration works, Unit III has been brought back into operation.
Currently, Units III, IV and V are operational, generating a total 630 MW of electricity every day. Meanwhile, repair works in Units I and II are in progress.
