Two women killed in road accident, 10 relatives injured, vehicle hits milestone, police investigating in Natham, Dindigul district.
Two women died on the spot in a road accident and 10 others, said to be their relatives, have been admitted to the government hospital in Natham in Dindigul district on Thursday.
Police said that Mithunraj (42) of Kozhikode in Kerala was employed in the Power Grid Corporation in Tiruchi district. His relatives and children had come from Kerala on a tour.
The family members drove their vehicle to Madurai and while returning to Tiruchi via Natham-Thuvarankurichi four-way, the accident occurred at Pudupatti Pass. It is said that the vehicle dashed against a milestone reportedly due to a snag and in the impact Shoba (45) and Shobana (51) died on the spot.
The names of the injured were given as Kunnikannan (64), Ajitha (40), Sebin (38), Ashwath (28), Anjali (31), Arundathi (18) and three children.
An investigation officer said the damage to the vehicle was so bad, they had to seek the assistance of the fire and rescue services personnel to bring out the two deceased persons. A tyre from the vehicle was spotted some 200 metres in the forest area, the officer added.
Natham police are investigating.
