Traffic restrictions on Chennai airport-ECR route for Vice President’s visit

The traffic arrangements will be implemented from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. for smooth and hassle-free vehicular movement, the Chennai police said. Motorists traveling from Chennai Airport to East Coast Road (ECR) are advised to take the Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road or OMR) as an alternative route to reach their destinations. All commercial vehicles will be restricted from using the Airport-ECR route during the specified hours.
The Tambaram City police said in their advisory that Mr. Dhankar and other dignitaries would visit the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD) at Muttukadu, Kanathur, at about 4:55 p.m. on Friday. Road diversions will be implemented from 4 p.m. to 11.30 p.m. to ensure free flow of traffic on OMR and ECR, the advisory said.
Vehicles coming from Sholinganallur to Akkarai will be diverted at Sholinganallur junction via OMR to reach their destinations. Vehicles coming from Mahabalipuram on ECR will be diverted at Kovalam junction-Kelambakkam to reach their destinations.
Vehicles coming from Thiruporur on OMR will be diverted at Kelambakkam junction, and vehicles heading towards the airport can use OMR and Vandalur Kelambakkam Road/GST Road.
To ensure smooth traffic flow within and around the Tambaram city limits, all heavy vehicles will be restricted on OMR, ECR, and 200 Feet Radial Road between 2 p.m. and 11.30 p.m. This measure aims to minimise congestion during peak hours.
