State Government announces ₹25 lakh ex-gratia for stampede victims at Vaikunta Ekadasi, ministers visit hospitals, case registered.
The state Government has announced an ex-gratia ₹25 lakh to the kin of the deceased in the stampede witnessed in the centres meant to distribute tokens for Vaikunta Ekadasi darshan.
Minister for Revenue Anagani Satya Prasad, who is in charge of Tirupati district, visited the SVIMS hospital along with his cabinet colleagues Vangalapudi Anitha (Home), Anam Ramanarayana Reddy (Endowments), Nimmala Rama Naidu (Irrigation) and K. Parthasarathy (I&PR) made the announcement on behalf of the state.
The kin of the deceased and the relatives of those undergoing treatment were seen sobbing inconsolably at the hospital premises. The ministers were mobbed by the relatives, who narrated their nightmarish experience to them.
Similarly, the Narayanavanam Tahsildar has filed a complaint with the Tirupati East Police station on the stampede issue, based on which a case has been registered under section 194 of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita.
Deceased list
A pall of gloom descended over SVIMS super specialty hospital and SVR Ruia Government General Hospital campuses in Tirupati over the death of six devotees in a stampede for tokens late on Wednesday, just two days ahead of the auspicious ‘Vaikunta Ekadasi’.
The deceased were identified as S. Lavanya (38), a homemaker from Thatichettipalem in Visakhapatnam, Malliga (50), a homemaker from Mettur in Salem district of Tamil Nadu, Buddeti Naidu Babu (55), a lab assistant at the railway station of Narsipatnam, Kandipalli Santhi (33), a daily wage earner of Kancharapalem highway in Visakhapatnam were reported dead due to asphyxia at SVR Ruia Hospital.
