Three youngsters were brutally hacked to death in a godown in the densely-populated residential area of Rainbow Nagar in Puducherry on Friday (February 14, 2025) in a suspected case of gang rivalry.
The police have identified the deceased as Panner Deva, a resident of Orleanpet, and Rashi and Adhi, both residents of J.J. Nagar in Reddiyarpalayam. All of them were in their early 20s and categorised as “budding criminals” in police circles. According to the police, Rashi was the son of a rowdy named Desthan, who was murdered by a rival gang in 2008.
The incident came to light after locals found their bodies inside a building on Friday morning and alerted the police. A team of police officers, including Deputy Inspector General of Police Sathiyasundaram and Senior Superintendent of Police Narra Chaithanya, inspected the scene of the crime. Forensic experts and sniffer dogs were deployed for the crime scene investigation.
The police have gathered preliminary inputs about the murder based on footages collected from CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity and feedback from police’s crime network. Sources said a few persons have been picked up for interrogation in connection with the crime.

The Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) whether it would fulfil the poll promise of providing free LPG cylinders to women on Holi. Hitting back, the ruling party asked AAP why had it not kept its word on disbursing ₹1,000 to women for which it had allocated ₹2,000 crore in the 2024-25 budget. Meanwhile, Delhi government sources said officials are preparing a blueprint of the proposal and that the criteria for the beneficiaries is yet to be decided. The BJP had promised to provide LPG cylinders for ₹500 to women from poor families and one free cylinder each on Holi and Deepavali ahead of the February 5 Assembly election.
