Dharmendra Pradhan has insulted the people of Tamil Nadu with his “arrogant” statement that the Centre would not release [Samagra Shiksha] funds to the State until the government accepted the three-language policy: Manickam Tagore
Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan has insulted the people of Tamil Nadu with his “arrogant” statement that the Centre would not release [Samagra Shiksha] funds to the State until the government accepted the three-language policy under the National Education Policy (NEP), said Congress MP B. Manickam Tagore in Virudhunagar on Monday (February 17, 2025).
The Union Minister’s observation has exposed the “RSS mindset” of giving diktats to all the States from New Delhi, he told mediapersons.
The then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had given a guarantee that until the States accepted the three-language policy, they could continue with their two-language policy.
When this was the case with respect to Tamil Nadu, the Union Minister has insulted the State and its people by making such statements, he said. He further said even as the entire State had condemned his statement, the Tamil Nadu unit of Bhartiya Janata Party was trying to justify it to show its loyalty to the party. “The State BJP leaders have shown again that they are against the interest of Tamils,” the Virudhunagar MP said.
Mr. Tagore condemned the Minister for saying that Tamil Nadu was going against the Constitution just because it was not joining a Central government scheme. The issue would be raised in Parliament, he said.
When asked about Tamil Nadu government being accused of denying students the right to learn Hindi in government schools, Mr. Tagore said the Centre was refusing funds to the State even for the existing education system.
“It was not right to compare the syllabus of the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) and the State Board. Only compelling students to learn Hindi amounted to Hindi imposition ... which was fought tooth and nail in the past,” he said.
