Traditional consecration ceremony at Perur Pateeswarar Temple in Coimbatore with new facilities and rituals performed with Vedic recitations.
Thousands of devotees congregated at Perur Pateeswarar Temple in Coimbatore district on Monday as the consecration ceremony was performed with traditional rituals and Vedic recitations.
Ahead of the ceremony, development works worth ₹15 crore were carried out at the temple. Facilities for performing Tharpanam rituals were created, with 50 halls accommodating 100 people at a time. New drainage system and parking space were set up to manage the gathering of devotees. As part of the project, a garden featuring 27 tree species representing 27 Nakshatras and Navagraha pillars was developed. Medical services and dedicated rooms for police and fire personnel were provided. A 45,000 sq. ft. walkway made of granite stones was constructed, and the 18 steps leading to the Noyyal River were restored to facilitate rituals.
The consecration rituals began on February 3, with daily pujas and homams, including Maha Ganapathi Homam and Navagraha Homam. A total of 49 altars and 60 fire pits were set up for the proceedings. The Yaga Puja was performed in six phases from February 7 to February 10, culminating in the final phase at 5.45 a.m. on Monday.
At 9.50 a.m., the Maha Kumbabishekam was performed for the Rajagopuram, temple towers, and subsidiary deities. Priests, chanting Vedic hymns, poured sacred water over the tower kalasam. At 10.05 a.m., the Samakala Maha Kumbabishekam was performed for the temple’s presiding deities—Shri Pateeswarar, Shri Pachai Nayagi Amman, Shri Nataraja Peruman, and Shri Dandapani swamy.
