VCK founder Thol. Thirumavalavan meets CM Stalin, demands inquiry into Vengaivayal incident and reservations for SC/ST in promotions.
VCK founder and MP Thol. Thirumavalavan called on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in the Secretariat here on Monday. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin was also present during the meeting.
After the meeting, Mr. Thirumavalavan said he handed over a representation to the Chief Minister underlining four demands. He requested the constitution of a Commission of Inquiry to probe the Vengaivayal incident, contending that the charge sheet filed by the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) was against the very people who were affected in the incident.
Under Article 16 (4A) of the Constitution, the Tamil Nadu government must follow Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in enacting a legislation to provide reservations in promotions for employees belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), Mr. Thirumavalavan said. He also advocated following a 200-point roster to protect the interests of Other Backward Classes.
He also requested the State government to construct commercial complexes in urban local bodies exclusively for entrepreneurs from SC and ST communities. Contending that the caste atrocities against these communities were on the rise in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Thirumavalavan requested that the government take steps to address the issue.
