The transaxle from James Dean's 'cursed' Porsche is up for auction
Fox News
The four-speed transaxle from the Porsche 500 Spyder that James Dean died in is being offered for auction on the Bring A Trailer website. The unit had been stored for decades before a Porsche restorer happened upon it while looking for parts.
The part was one of several that were scavenged from the wreck to be reused in other cars and possibly the only one that still exists. Dean was on his way to take part in a race in Salinas, Calif., with his mechanic, Rolf Wütherich, in the passenger seat when he collided with a Ford Tudor driven by Donald Turnupseed at an intersection in Cholame. Turnupseed was only mildly hurt, but Dean and Wütherich suffered serious injuries in the low-slung roadster. They were taken to a hospital by ambulance and Dean passed on the way and was declared dead on arrival.More Related News
