
Telangana tunnel rescue 43rd day | GSI, Irrigation officials keeping tab on conditions inside tunnel

The authorities from Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Telangana Irrigation Department are keeping a constant tab on the conditions inside the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Nagarkurnool, particularly in the last 110 metres stretch towards the end-rock where the bodies of six more persons are still trapped under the debris, to ensure safety of the rescue personnel engaged in clearing the debris.
The multi-agency rescue teams are simultaneously carrying out the work to dig hardened debris, removal of slush and boulders and shifting of metal parts of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) with the help of a conveyor belt and locomotive train on Saturday (April 5, 2025) - the 43rd day of the rescue operation.
According to the Special Officer, appointed to oversee the rescue operation by coordinating with the rescue agencies, Siva Sankar Lotheti, the digging work and debris removal gained pace and the de-watering process is also in progress continuously. Lighting and supply of fresh air are being extended inside the tunnel.
Later, Mr. Lotheti reviewed the rescue operation with the Army officials Vikas Singh and Vijay Kumar; senior project engineer of the Jaypee Associates Sanjay Kumar Singh; officials of Singareni Collieries; State Disaster Response Force (SDRF); Hyderabad Disaster Response Force (HYDRAA), South Central Railway (SCR) and other agencies.
