Delhi police arrest man for driving with head constable on bonnet for 7 km, fleeing to Kolkata.
The Delhi police arrested a man on Friday for speeding away in his car to evade interception, with a head constable on the bonnet for seven kilometres. The accused,
Karamveer, was arrested from Kolkata, where he had fled after the incident, said an officer.
“The incident happened on April 22 at 6:28 a.m. near the Bhalswa landfill in north-west Delhi. Head constable Praveen and Assistant Sub-Inspector Naveen signalled a white car near the GTK bypass to halt. They suspected that the vehicle was being used to transport liquor,” said an officer.
The officer added that on being asked to step out, the driver attempted to flee. In a bid to stop the car, the head constable stood in front of the vehicle. However, the driver drove straight at him, causing Mr. Praveen to land on the bonnet, the officer added.
“Despite this, the car sped towards Azadpur with Praveen clinging on to the bonnet. Praveen managed to jump off near Azadpur Mandi when the vehicle slowed down. Injured and unable to retrieve his phone, he borrowed the phone of a passer-by and alerted the PCR,” said the officer.
The head constable was rushed to BJRM Hospital and treated for injuries to his hand and feet. Based on his statement, a case was registered under the relevant sections of the BNS at the Bhalswa Dairy police station, and a probe was initiated.

Describing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive under way in Bihar as “an invasive reconstruction of the electoral roll,” Dipankar Bhattacharya, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, said States including Kerala should be on guard as it could be applied in other parts of the country as well.
