
Telangana CM requests PM for speedy clearances of Hyderabad Metro Phase II

Telangana CM seeks PM Modi's approval for Hyderabad Metro Rail extension and various infrastructure projects, seeking central assistance.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to accord permission to the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project envisaging extension of metro services to all parts of the State capital [Hyderabad].
He explained to the Prime Minister that the previous State government had neglected the extension works during its decade long rule. The [current] State Government has planned extension of the Metro Rail in five corridors spanning 76.4 km with an estimate of ₹24,269 crore, he said requesting the Prime Minister to give necessary permissions expeditiously.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu, called on the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Wednesday (February 26, 2025) morning. Mr. Reddy took several pending issues pertaining to Telangana to the notice of Mr. Modi.
He told the Prime Minister that the State government had completed acquisition of 90% of land required for the northern side prestigious Regional Ring Road (RRR). The Central government should therefore give speedy clearance to the southern part of the RRR so that the Government could take up works. The RRR could be effectively utilised if works of the southern section were completed, he said assuring that the State Government was prepared to bear 50% of the costs pertaining to land acquisition on the southern side.
Parallelly, the State Government had proposed to develop regional ring rail along the RRR. Once completed, the ring rail would significantly enhance connectivity between different train routes across the State. At the same time, the government had decided to develop a dry port abutting the RRR to facilitate speedy movement of goods to and from Telangana which was landlocked State.
He sought the Central government’s support on granting permission for greenfield highway and a rail line connecting the dry port with the ports in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
The Chief Minister briefed Mr. Modi about Musi rejuvenation project explaining about the cultural and spiritual relation between the river and Telangana. He submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister seeking assistance for the Musi rejuvenation project as also the development of Bapu Ghat in the confluence of Esa and Musi rivers, 27 sewerage treatment plants (STP) for cleansing the river, construction of bunds and retaining walls which needed a central assistance of ₹20,000 crore. In addition, the Centre should extend its assistance to the State in the proposed Godavari Musi linking project and transfer 222.7 acre defence land for taking up Gandhi Sarovar project.
