The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) will set up a sub-station at Panjapur to mainly cater to the power requirement of the Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) and the TIDEL park.
A number of new projects have been lined up at Panjapur on the outskirts of the Tiruchi-Madurai Highway. The IBT, TIDEL park, truck terminal, Integrated Vegetable, Fruits, and Flower Market are among the projects. Of them, the bus terminus and truck terminal are set to be thrown open to the public shortly. It is projected that the power demand will surge once the bus terminus is inaugurated. Besides, the power demand of the terminus and the adjacent truck terminal, the Tangedco foresees a big jump in demand from the area considering the expansion of residential layouts.
Taking into consideration the presence of power-intensive commercial establishments, Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru had asked the Tangedco to take steps to establish a 110/11 kV sub-station. The Tangedco subsequently sought suitable land from the Tiruchi Corporation for the substation. The civic body has accepted the proposal and given “enter upon” permission to Tangedco to use the land.
Corporation Commissioner V. Saravanan told The Hindu that the permission had been given for 10,000 sq. m (2.47 acres) of land to Tangedco. A communication to that effect had been sent. The sub-station would augur well for uninterrupted power supply to the bus terminus.
It is said that the Revenue Department had initiated steps to fix land cost to transfer 10,000 sq. m. of land under the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998, to the Tangedco.
The proposal will cost ₹20 crore for establishing the sub-station. Administrative sanction (AS) was awaited for the project. The Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Ltd (Tantransco) is expected to execute the project for Tangedco.
