Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar criticizes BJP for protesting against State government instead of Centre over inflation issues.
The BJP that has announced a protest against the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the State should, instead, protest against the Centre first, as Central policies have caused inflation, Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar claimed in Belagavi on Tuesday.
“The wrong financial policies of the Union government have caused inflation. If the State BJP is really concerned about price rise, it should organise a protest against the government at the Centre and not the one in the State,” she said.
“It is the Central government that has burdened the common man by increasing the prices of essential commodities. The State BJP should protest against the Central government first. The prices of fuel, gas, food and cooking oil and every other commodity have increased due to their policies. The BJP should question this first before complaining about price rise in the State,” she told reporters.
She said that hiking milk prices has benefited farmers.
“The BJP leaders from Karnataka should fight for justice for the State. We launched the ‘our taxes our right’ campaign but the Central government did not helps us. The BJP leaders from the State did not join us. I do not think they have the courage to question the Central government. What is the use of fighting with the Congress government in the State,” she said.
To a query, she said that civil contractors are facing problems due to the mistakes committed by the last BJP government. It issued several tenders without setting aside money for the projects. The BJP government did not release any money for those projects. Now, the contractors are asking us to release the money, she said.
She said that the State government has released money under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme for women for January already. Money for February has been released. It will be deposited in the accounts of women beneficiaries soon, she said.

Referring to the blasting being done at the stone quarries, the Upa Lokayukta sought to know whether information had been gathered regarding any damage to houses in the village. He sought to know who would be responsible for any damage caused due to quarrying being done completely through blasting, and directed the officials to do a thorough check.
