
Sri Lankan Navy arrests 18 fishermen from TN, Karaikal

18 fishermen from Tamil Nadu arrested by Sri Lankan Navy for trespassing into their waters while fishing.
As batch of 18 fishermen who set out to sea on a mechanised vessel from Karaikal on Sunday were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in the late hours on Monday on charges of trespassing into the island nation waters while fishing. Fifteen among them hailed from Karaikal district, two others from Nagapattinam district and one fisherman from Mayiladuthurai district in Tamil Nadu.
Fisheries Department sources in Karaikal said the 18 fishermen left Karaikal fishing harbour at around 10 p.m. on Sunday. They were arrested in the late hours on Monday by the Sri Lankan Navy.
The names of the arrested fishermen were given as V. Kalaimani (46), S. Silambarasan (34), K. Sudheen (23), K. Raman (37), M. Ponnaiyan (38), P. Poovarasan (26), S. Manickavelu (69), R. Akash (25), T. Sakthivel (33), S. Vinith Kumar (30), B. Kamalesh (23), V. Sivakumar (41), C. Arumugam (44), K. Jayamani (18), P. Mohan Kumar (25)- all hailing from Karaikal district, R. Tamilmani (30) and S. Rathinavel (55) - both of Nagapattinam district and S. Selvanathan (32) of Mayiladuthurai district. The arrested fishermen were taken to the island nation for inquiry, the sources added.

The Karnataka government has drafted a comprehensive master plan for the integrated development of Kukke Subrahmanya temple, the State’s highest revenue-generating temple managed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department. The redevelopment initiative is estimated to cost around ₹254 crore and aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities for devotees.
