Speakers at Tirupati seminar hail Sage Agastya’s contributions to Tamil

National seminar honors Sage Agastya's contributions to Tamil language and Indian Knowledge Systems at Kasi Tamil Sangam 3.0.
Speakers at the national seminar on ‘Sage Agastya and his contributions’ recalled his role in promoting Tamil language across the country.
The meet conducted as part of Kasi Tamil Sangam 3.0 on Tuesday (January 28, 2025) the third annual version of the pan-India cultural event celebrating the rich heritage and traditions linking Tamil Nadu and the ancient city of Kashi, highlighting the cultural confluence between the two.
In his keynote address, S. Aruna Sundaram, Principal of Madras Sanskrit College, Chennai, explained that the sage had rendered extensive contribution to the domains of linguistics, medicine, astronomy and spiritual wisdom. He explained that the sage had extensively contributed to the growth of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), an area of study that has recently been revived.
NSU Vice-Chancellor G.S.R. Krishnamurthi and Dean (Academic) Rajanikant Shukla spoke on the varsity’s commitment to promoting and protecting diversity.
Professors Ganapathi Bhatt, K. Rajagopalan, Chandrasekhar respectively discussed his knowledge of poisons and remedies, Aditya Hridayam taught to Rama and his focus on Dravidian languages. P. Muralikrishna discussed Agastya’s influence on Yoga, Ayurveda and Sangam literature, connecting the north and south of India.
In the valedictory session, O.R. Devanathan, an associate professor at Madras Presidency College, glorified Agastya’s literary and intellectual legacy. The event was coordinated by academics C. Ranganathan and S. Vaishnavi.
