SAAP Chairperson expresses dissatisfaction over Kurnool DSA facilities, vows to develop modern sports infrastructure in the district.
Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairperson A. Ravi Naidu expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of the Kurnool District Sports Authority (DSA) and the facilities at the indoor and outdoor stadium in the city.
Mr. Ravi Naidu along with Kurnool MP B. Nagaraju on Saturday visited the DSA office and inspected the outdoor stadium and gymnastics training indoor hall in the city. During his review with the DSA officials, the SAAP Chairperson expressed dissatisfaction over the management of funds in the DSA, progress in development works, cleanliness in the premises and the facilities provided for sport enthusiasts. He also expressed displeasure over the maintenance of toilets in the indoor stadium and the unhygienic conditions in the premises.
Speaking to media later, MP Nagaraju said that the previous government had neglected the sports sector and sportsperson faced difficulties in honing their talent. He felt that there is a dire need to encourage sportspersons in the backward district and develop the DSA stadium. The MP sought the cooperation of SAAP in developing the stadium and assured to extend cooperation from his side. He also promised to bring funds from the Centre to develop sports infrastructure in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ravi Naidu said that the stadium at Kurnool will be provided with all the modern infrastructure and would be developed as a model stadium. He said that both the MP and Industries Minister T.G. Bharath were serious on developing sports facilities in the district. Mr. Ravi Naidu said that they have identified places at Joharapuram and at Waterfalls for construction of new stadiums in the district and proposals would be prepared soon. These new stadiums would be developed with the support of the MP and the Minister, he said.
Mr. Ravi Naidu alleged that the previous government had misused ₹119 crore in the name of ‘Aadudam Andhra’, an initiative to promote sport. Earlier, the SAAP Chairperson and MP garlanded the statue of hockey legend Padma Shri Dhyan Chand at the entrance of the DSA stadium. Later, the SAAP Chairperson took representations from several sportspersons.
Terming the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday as a mixed bag with a special focus on the middle class and the state of Bihar, Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI), a body of traders and industrialists, expressed its displeasure by stating that the budget did not consider the major demands from Kalyana Karnataka region.
