Residents of Kadambur village seek district administration intervention to clear obstruction in water channel from Kodikulam kanmai.
Residents of Kadambur village in Paramakudi taluk through a petition sought the intervention of the district administration to clear the obstruction in the channel which supplies water from Kodikulam kanmai to the Kadambur kanmai.
As one of the residents of Kadambur M. Siva said, water from Kodikulam kanmai usually branches into two separate channels, one to fill the kanmai at Kodikulam and the other channel to fill Agaram kanmai.
As this was the convention, in recent days, residents of Siruvayal village located on the pathway of the channel blocked the original channel to divert the water to their village, he added.
“Though the Water Resources Department (WRD) did not permit them to dig the channel, they dug a channel on their own to fill the water body located in their village,” he said.
Usually, water on reaching Kadambur kanmai, would then be distributed to the Agaram kanmai through a different channel, he said.
“As Agaram villagers want to receive water directly from the main channel, they have dug an additional channel,” he noted.
Due to this, the water that Kadambur villagers had to receive was blocked. Despite officials interfering and making arrangements to ensure water flow to Kadambur, once again, Agaram villagers have blocked the channel, he alleged.
