The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri districts on Sunday.
Salem District Collector R. Brindha Devi unfurled the tricolour at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium and accepted the guard of honour by the district police. The Collector distributed welfare assistance worth ₹2.18 crore to 40 beneficiaries and the Chief Minister’s Medals to 120 police personnel in recognition of their service. Certificates of appreciation were distributed to 453 government officials of various departments. The Collector honoured the freedom fighters and their heirs. Cultural programmes were presented by 1,250 school children during the celebrations.
Later, the Collector participated in the Grama Sabha meeting held at Pagalpatti panchayat in Omalur Panchayat Union. The Collector said grama sabha meetings were held at all the 385 panchayats in the district and the discussions focused on the schemes implemented by the government in their villages. Instructions were given to the officials to take action on the grievances petitions submitted by the public in the grama sabha meeting, Ms. Brindha Devi added.
At Salem Corporation, Mayor A. Ramachandran unfurled the national flag and distributed medals to meritorious Corporation staff with 20 years experience.
In Namakkal district, Collector S. Uma unfurled the national flag at the Collectorate and distributed the Chief Minister’s medal to 40 police personnel and certificates of appreciation to 307 government staff of various departments. The Collector distributed welfare assistance worth ₹1.81 crore to 23 beneficiaries.
The Collector later took part at the grama sabha meeting held at Singalandapuram panchayat in the Rasipuram Panchayat union and assured that the Rasipuram Dedicated Water Supply Scheme works would be completed by this year’s end and protected drinking water will be supplied to the people in the union.
In Dharmapuri district, the Collector K. Santhi hoisted the National flag at the district stadium. The Collector distributed Chief Minister’s Medals to 51 police personnel and certificates of appreciation to 136 government staff. She also distributed welfare assistance worth Rs. 5.80 lakhs to 25 beneficiaries during the celebrations.
