According to officials from the department here, continuous efforts are being made to promote the progressive use of Hindi in government work. In this connection, four regional official language conferences are organised every financial year. The conference in Mysuru is the first event of 2024-25.
In view of the conference, officials from the department and the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysuru, shared details at a press conference here on Friday.
Rajesh Kumar Srivastav, Joint Director, Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi; Shailendra Mohan, Director, Central Institute of Indian languages, Mysuru; Anil, Kumar, Deputy Secretary, Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi, and Anirban Kumar Vishwas, Deputy Director, Regional Implementation Office, (Bengaluru), Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs were present at the press conference.
Based on the use of Hindi, the country has been classified into three regions — A, B, and C.
For the implementation of the Official Language Policy of the Union government in these areas and for the promotion of Hindi as the official language, Town Official Language Implementation Committees and eight regional offices are functioning under the Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Southern region includes Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka and the South-West includes Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep.
