Show cause notices recommended for Kunal Kamra and Shiv Sena UBT leader Sushama Andhare by Maharashtra Legislative Council.
Recommendation for the issuance of show cause notices to Kunal Kamra and to Shiv Sena UBT leader Sushama Andhare, has been sent to the Chairperson of Maharashtra Legislative Council, top sources told The Hindu on Friday (March 28, 2025).
If the recommendation is accepted, show cause notices will be issued to both of them. Privilege committee chairperson Prasad Lad told The Hindu that the committee expects a letter by the Chairperson’s office within the next two-three days.
Meanwhile, Ram Shinde, Chairperson of Maharashtra Legislative Council, told The Hindu that he had already sent the matter to the privilege committee. “I have accepted the motion which was presented in front of me, and have sent the matter to the privilege committee which is headed by Prasad Lad. Under him, the committee will probe into the matter. But after the committee’s proceedings, the matter will come in front of me for the punishment,” he said.
A breach of privilege motion was moved by BJP MLC Pravin Darekar against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra for “personal and insulting remarks” against DCM Eknath Shinde and against Shiv Sena UBT leader Sushama Andhare for supporting his comments.
As per the procedure, the Secretaries of the Legislature send their opinion to the Chairperson of the Legislative Council. When the Chairperson accepts the opinion, it is sent to the Under Secretary of the privilege committee department, which puts it up in front of the privilege committee chairperson.
The expert opinion recommending the issuance of a show cause notice to Kunal Kamra and Sushama Andhare has been sent to the Chairperson. As per top sources, the show cause notices will be issued to both of them by next week.
