Pedestrians and motorists often face problems due to rain. But, the life of a motorist was saved because of rain in Bengaluru on March 22.
The motorist, Mani, was riding his two-wheeler on Jeevan Bima Nagar Main Road in east Bengaluru when he encountered light rain around 4.30 p.m.
He stopped his two-wheeler and parked it by the side of the road. He then took shelter in a BMTC bus stop.
A few minutes later, the branch of a tree fell on the two-wheeler. Another two-wheeler that was parked nearby was also damaged.
Mani survived because he had parked his two-wheeler and taken shelter in the BMTC bus stop, close to Jeevan Bima Nagar Traffic Police Station. “I had stopped my two-wheeler, parked it by the side of the road, and was sitting in the bus stop when the branch of the tree fell on my vehicle,” he told The Hindu.
On hearing a commotion, personnel of Jeevan Bima Nagar Traffic Police Station rushed to the spot. They saw the fallen branch of a tree, and also that a truck had stalled, and had blocked movement of vehicles. They quickly got the truck driver to move the vehicle away from the spot. Though this allowed movement of vehicles on one half of the road, vehicles were piling up on the other side.
The police personnel tried to move the tree branch, but were unsuccessful due to its large size and girth. They then looked around for construction material, procured thick wooden sticks and tried to move the branch to the side of the road. Seeing them struggle, some passers-by joined them and helped them move the heavy branch to the side.
