Parents of R.G. Kar Medical College victim express dissatisfaction with BJP, likely to join protest march in Kolkata.
Parents of the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder victim expressed their dissatisfaction with the role of the Bharatiya Janta Party in handling the issue. The parents are likely to join a protest march organised by junior resident doctors in Kolkata on Friday (December 5, 2024).
The aggrieved parents said they were unhappy with the BJP’s role. They said, “We had asked for a meeting with Amit Shahji, even he did not meet us. It is like our daughter and her pain has been forgotten by them and the loss is only ours.”
Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and other BJP leaders had met the parents on November 26 at the West Bengal Assembly. “What the parents of the doctor are demanding is that we should involve the people to fight against the injustice. All MLAs of the BJP take the pledge that we will continue to raise the issue in the court of the people and will not let people forget the gruesome crime,” Mr. Adhikari said.
The parents of the deceased 31-year-old female doctor have also made a page on Facebook and posted a video on Thursday (December 5, 2024). On the page, they wrote, “Justice for Our Daughter. We are standing strong, but we can’t do it alone. Your voice, your support, and your love can make all the difference.”
In the video which has been shared by hundreds of people, the father of the victim said it had been four months but they had still not been able to find the complete truth behind the events of the night of the violence, the night they lost their daughter.
Meanwhile, the junior resident doctors of West Bengal are set to organise a rally on Friday (December 6, 2024) to protest against the reinstation of Avik De and Birupaksha Biswas in the West Bengal Medical Council. The two were accused of threat culture at medical colleges in the State. The doctors will march to Swastha Bhawan, the State Health Department headquarters.
Debasish Haldar, a protesting junior doctor, said Mr. Avik De was found guilty by Swastha Bhawan after an investigation. Mr. Haldar further said, “There were 32 accusations against him. If Swastha Bhawan found him guilty, then how can WBMC say he is innocent? What is the Health department doing then? That is why we are calling for this protest march.”

The Karnataka government has drafted a comprehensive master plan for the integrated development of Kukke Subrahmanya temple, the State’s highest revenue-generating temple managed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department. The redevelopment initiative is estimated to cost around ₹254 crore and aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities for devotees.
