Geneva: Qatar emphasized the importance of promoting values of equality and human rights as a means of early warning and prevention of tensions and conflicts. It stressed the need to maintain social cohesion and stability, including rejecting hate speech and anti-Muslim bigotry, and halting practices that fuel hostility and violence against them, often used by right-wing parties and extremists to achieve narrow political and personal gains.
This statement was made by Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva H E Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, during the interactive dialogue on the annual report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, within the framework of the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
She said that every day the world believes that the worst chapter of violations and genocide crimes committed by Israeli occupation forces against Palestinians in Gaza has passed, but the following day witnesses even more brutal massacres and more severe violations of international laws and agreements that cannot be justified.
She explained that it is clear that Israel, the occupying power, has sought to destroy everything in Gaza and eradicate signs of life by spreading death, displacement, and famine, turning the area into a large graveyard for its residents.
H E Dr Al Muftah pointed out that the human and moral conscience of the international community is called upon today to defend and implement human values and human rights in Gaza, as is demanded in other areas.
