Doha, Qatar: Bloomberg News reported yesterday, June 2, that Qatar Airways is in talks with plane makers Airbus and Boeing, and is close to making a decision to purchase a large order for wide-body aircraft.
Qatar Airways is looking at ordering about 200 jets to expand and renew its fleet, looking at a mix of Airbus A350s and Boeing 777X models, with a decision possible as soon as the Farnborough Air Show in Britain late next month, the report said.
Reuters also reported today, June 3, that Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, told reporters that it was largely correct "the airline is in talks with Airbus to order A350 and Boeing 777X wide-body jets."
According to Bloomberg, major airlines are in a race to procure new fuel-efficient widebody jets to keep operating costs down and cater to booming international travel demand.
