Puducherry CM announces ₹750 Pongal gift for ration card holders via DBT, replacing traditional PDS distribution.
Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has said that the government will provide ₹750 as Pongal gift to all ration card holders in the Union Territory (UT).
The Chief Minister disclosed this during an interaction with reporters on the sidelines of an event recently.
Mr. Rangasamy said the cash would be credited into the bank accounts of the card holders via the Direct Benefit Transfer mode that is prevailing in Public Distribution System in the UT.
The UT has an estimated 3.54 lakh ration card holders. The cash amount is intended as an equivalent of the Pongal kit of commodities that was customarily distributed through the PDS outlets for the festival, Mr. Rangasamy said.
