BJP leaders in Puducherry discuss organisational elections and political situation with party leadership in New Delhi.
The BJP leadership at the Centre held discussions with party leaders in Puducherry on the progress made in the organisational election and latest political situation in the Union Territory.
Home Minister A. Namassivayam, BJP president V. Selvaganabathy and party in-charge for the Union Territory Nirmal Kumar Surana were in New Delhi for the last two days at the invitation of party top brass. Puducherry Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam is also in New Delhi.
The three leaders met national general secretary (organisation) B. L. Santhosh and other leaders, separately, to brief them about organisational elections and the latest political developments, including the recent events organised by party legislators and the Independent MLAs supporting the ruling National Democratic Alliance government in Puducherry, a senior BJP leader told The Hindu.
In the recent days, a controversy had erupted in Puducherry after three BJP legislators A. John Kumar, his son Richards John Kumar and P. M. L. Kalyanasundaram and three Independents M. Sivasankar, P. Angalane and Gollapalli Srinivas Ashok organised ‘charity events’ with financial assistance from businessman Charles Jose Martin, son of lottery baron Satiago Martin who was under the lens of the Enforcement Directorate.
“The Puducherry leaders were in New Delhi at the invitation of the party high command. They briefed the Central leaders about the organisational elections and also about the activities of party MLAs. A section of party leaders in Puducherry wanted the party high command to intervene in the issue as they were of the opinion that the legislators deliberately breached party discipline by organising events with the support of the businessman,” the leader said.
Meanwhile, after the meeting in New Delhi, Home Minister left to Mahe on Wednesday evening to attend a few functions related to RSS and affiliated organisations, according to a BJP leader.
Pedestrians in the city have often found it difficult to cross roads, especially busy junctions, despite the presence of pedestrian signals as the green light glows only for a few seconds before the traffic starts moving. Now, just like timers for traffic signals, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has installed timers for pedestrian signals in some parts of the city.
