Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) protests for immediate implementation of 'Super Six' promises in Andhra Pradesh.
The Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) on Monday staged a protest, demanding immediate implementation of the ‘Super Six’ promises of the TDP-JSP-BJP government in Andhra Pradesh, at the Mahatma Gandhi statue near the GVMC administrative building in the city on Monday.
The POW called for a State-wide protest in this regard.
POW State general secretary Lakshmi said that the ‘Super Six’ promises made to the people ahead of the general elections had attracted the voters towards the NDA, which registered a landslide victory in the State.
She alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had deceived the people by saying that his government would focus on development, welfare and social justice, if voted to power, unlike the previous government. Now, the government is saying that the State’s finances are in bad shape and the implementation of the Super Six promises would require hiking of taxes. Only 50% of the promised funds were allocated for the Deepam and Thalliki Vandanam schemes,” she said.
Ms. Lakshmi said that the government had not prepared any action plan to provide employment to women or to prevent illegal trafficking and control of liquor. Further, the government was trying to utilise liquor as a major source of revenue. The POW leaders condemn this attitude of the government, she said.
POW district president S. Venkata Lakshmi, IFTU State vice-president M. Venkateswarlu, POW district vice-president D.K.S. Rohini Devi, secretary Indira and treasurer Varalakshmi were among those who participated in the protest.
